student success statement

"I would prefer to even fail with honor than win by cheating."
-Sophocles

It is hard to compete with cheaters. When you cheat you loose more than you win. When you cheat not only do you loose a lot but you also don't learn. For example in class today we watch two videos and one was about a horse rider cheating in a horse race. He was shocking his horse so that they can make it to the finish line first and so that he can win the grand prize. Luckily he was caught on camera in the middle of a photo before reaching the finish line shocking the poor horse. In the photo the horse looked scared and sad. Now if the picture was never taken he would have never been caught but he would have felt guilt for the rest of his life for being unfair. In the second video that we seen we saw a high school wrestler and his honesty pay off. His dad was fighting a battle of cancer and all the high school kid wanted to do was make his dad smile and show him his accomplishment in a wrestling game. Oh boy did he win. How did he win? He won honestly. Not only was he a winner but his component was too. Why? Because of his random act of kindness. Earlier he had lost his dad due to a heart attack and he knew how the high school kid was feeling. So he went up to the high school kid's dad and congratulated him and gave him a hug. He did it honestly and fair. He could have cheated and no one would have ever known but he did it honestly.
